Kevin Dawson

Kevin Dawson has been a proud railroader and union member since September 1979 when he first started working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, now the Union Pacific Railroad, in Wichita Kansas. He followed in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather, to become a locomotive fireman, and locomotive engineer. He achieved that goal of being promoted to the position of locomotive engineer in only 14 months, becoming one of the youngest locomotive engineers in the United States throughout all of Railroad history. He was only 19 years old. To put his achievement in perspective, it took his Grandfather from 1914 to 1940 (26 years) to be promoted and it took his father from 1946 to 1970 (24 years) to be promoted.

Kevin joined the United Transportation Union – Enginemen, part of the AFL-CIO in September 1979. He served as a local chairman of Local 1017 from 1980 until 1991. In 1991, he joined the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, now the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, a part of the Teamsters Union. He  made monthly financial contributions to the Democratic Party with his union dues every month throughout his career until his retirement on September 1, 2022.

Kevin graduated with an associate degree in general studies in 2004 from Southeast Community College. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Administrative Leadership in 2009. In 2015, He graduated with a Master of Arts in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma.

Kevin and his wife, Joann, reside in Norman. They are active with their 3 children and 8 grandchildren. They are also active as Vloggers on YouTube channel, @joke4244, with their motorcycle travel series.
